Rosie’s Miracle Home
When the Children’s Miracle Network discovered that having a piece of home could comfort sick children during their hospital stays, RE/MAX decided to make a difference. Through the Miracle Home Project, they identified three children who loved building with bricks and wanted to create something special for them. Then, they commissioned Playwell Bricks to craft custom brick sets that depicted the kids’ actual homes, allowing them not only to see but build their safe spaces while they’re undergoing treatment.
Playwell Bricks designed these dollhouse-style sets to reflect both the internal and external features of the children's homes, drawing from photographs and input from the children's parents. Playwell Bricks is proud to introduce the third and final of the Miracle Homes: Rosie’s house.
THE HEART OF THIS DESIGN
Playwell Bricks designer Garrett Gourley is happy to talk about how he designed Rosie’s house and what it meant to him. “Designing this brick house set felt like a meaningful way to create something special for a family that has endured so much.
“Each element of the build, from the cozy rooms to thoughtful details like the baby grand piano, was crafted with the intention of bringing comfort and joy. It wasn’t just about building a structure—it was about imagining a space where a family could feel a sense of warmth, togetherness, and healing. The process allowed me to channel creativity into something positive, offering hope and happiness through the simplicity of bricks.”
DESIGN CHALLENGES
“One of the most enjoyable parts of designing this build was constructing the baby grand piano for the family's living room,” Garrett goes on. “I loved the challenge of capturing the intricate details of the piano, from the curved body to the tiny keys, all within the constraints of the bricks. It added a unique, elegant touch to the room and brought the space to life in a fun, creative way.”
Garrett admits he learned a lot designing this house. “By researching techniques like interlocking bricks and using internal supports, I improved the strength of the design. I was able to reinforce the walls and integrate functional elements like doors and windows without weakening the structure.”
When it came to the cars, Garrett “experimented with chassis configurations and balanced the weight to enhance stability and movement, creating builds that are both sturdy and visually appealing.” And they certainly are!
