RE/MAX, in partnership with the Children’s Miracle Network, commissioned Playwell Bricks to design three custom brick models to brighten the hospital stays of young brick fans. But these weren’t just random models: RE/MAX wanted these sets to be custom models of three brick-loving kids’ actual homes.

Why? Because the Children’s Miracle Network knew that homesick kids liked to have a little bit of home with them during their hospital stays. Likewise, a real estate company like RE/MAX definitely understands the importance of home.

In addition to matching the exterior of the children’s houses, these dollhouse-style sets would also capture the interior details that make a house a home. Playwell Bricks is so happy to share the first of these sets with you.

The first of these three designs, Xavier’s house, was brought to brick life by Playwell Bricks designer Eric Dubois Yang.

As the designers worked from photographs to recreate these homes, Eric “noticed that Xavier had a big LEGO® city in his bedroom. It was extra cool to feel his passion coming through from those images, knowing that this model would one day be part of that city.” Imagine how excited Xavier must have been when he received this gift!

Was it easy to translate a real-life house into bricks? Eric admits there were challenging elements, but as a world-class designer, those challenges translate into pride of the finished model.

“I’m particularly proud of the cone roof section and the octagonal area on the first floor. Ensuring those translated well into bricks was a big challenge as it had to be efficient and sturdy enough for Xavier, while also matching the geometry of the tilted roof that interacts with outside.”

“It was exciting to take on this meaningful project,” Eric says, especially considering that “these models were gifted to remind them of the warmth of home while they’re away” for hospital stays.
