Not so long ago, Playwell Bricks was honoured to design three Miracle Homes for RE/MAX and Children’s Miracle Network. So the team was delighted to receive another commission from RE/MAX to design another house. This time, the prize was sales-based, and the winning agent selected their childhood home to be the subject of this custom Playwell Bricks set.

Working from photographs and focused on the exterior, Playwell Bricks team member Petrus Gartler designed this memory-rich house. “As usual with buildings, it was important to get the proportions right. The shingle roof had an interesting texture, and in this case, the most simple solution was the best option. I stacked plates to get the angle right, and the studs gave it the rough look and feel of shingles.”

He goes on to explain that “it was fun to explore options of how to build the windows sideways.” The design included decals to capture the look of some of the more unusual windows. “Other than that, it’s a fairly straightforward build,” Petrus says.

An important part of every custom Playwell Bricks set is the building experience and the build instructions. It’s important, especially when a set is this size, that building the set is a fun experience, rather than tedious. The designer keeps this in mind when designing the set and shares their process with the designer of the build instructions, Paul Lavallee.

“It was interesting to see how experienced team members think alike,” Petrus muses on this part of the experience. “Usually when I consider the steps for the build, I have a specific viewing orientation for the actual building instructions in mind to make sure not important parts are obscured at each step. Paul immediately got what I had in mind when he did his work on the instructions layout.”

So gratifying when a team meshes!
