Kyklades Maritime Corporation works hard to treat their clients right. That’s why they commissioned a custom holiday gift set of one of the oil tankers in their fleet, the Nissos Kythnos, for those same clients.

Playwell Bricks CEO Jason Pyett knows his way around brick ship design, completing designs for TWW Yachts and Virgin Cruise’s Resilient Lady over the last year. “It was a great set to design with interesting details,” he says about the Nissos Kythnos. “There was input from both the management team as well as the captain of the ship.”

It was important to the client that Jason pay special attention to the curve at the stern (or rear) of the boat. That and “the propeller was an interesting challenge,” Jason says.

Once the design was complete and approved, the team swung into production to order the parts for all 500 sets. The graphics team worked on the decals for the sets: including the boat’s name, Nissos Kythnos, and the client’s, Kyklades Maritimes, as well as working details like logos on the exhaust tower, helipad markings, and of course a “safety first” sign at the front of bridge.

Despite a tight deadline, everything was ready to go… until a dreaded customs delay slowed things down. “The client was incredibly understanding during this process,” Jason tells me, but of course these situations are stressful on the team. “Thankfully we were able to resolve that and they were able to successfully deliver their gifts, despite a slight delay.” Phew!
