Unveiling the Resilient Lady: How Bain Capital Sealed a Million-Dollar Deal

Bain Capital, one of the biggest investment firms in the world, was on the hunt for a designer with a particular set of skills. They were closing a major deal and were hoping to seal that same deal with a custom set made from genuine LEGO® bricks of either the new port in progress or one of the Virgin Cruise ships.
Bain reached out to two other brick design companies before coming to Playwell Bricks. "We were the only one who would be able to take this on for them," Playwell Bricks CEO Jason Pyett says with pride.
One of the newest ships in the Virgin Cruise fleet, Resilient Lady, was chosen to be immortalized in bricks. "We only had six weeks to put this together," says Pyett. "So I had to do the design quickly."
Quickly is right! Pyett had a mere three days to dedicate to the design of the ship in order to have the bricks ordered, the instructions created, and the completed sets delivered on time.
"I developed a core on the inside so that I could put the sides and then the top on. There's nothing super fancy about the design, my main focus was on getting the shapes down of the ship. If you look at pictures of Resilient Lady, the shape of the bow is really different and that was the part I was trying to capture in the design."
The sets were packed up and delivered to Bain Capital in time for their event. Soon after, they got back to us with the kind of feedback that makes us glow, saying "Playwell is the best, very responsive, easy to work with. They were willing to accommodate our tight timeline and the end product was a work of art."
