This Hospital's Getting the Playwell Bricks Treatment
Parts count: 345
Dimensions (CM): 16(W) x 16(L) x 11.5 (H)
This custom set of the Arthur M. Blank Children’s Hospital was commissioned to commemorate the inauguration of the new hospital. While the team supposes this isn’t the first hospital to be made of bricks, we do think this kind of bricks is the most fun.
the build
Playwell Bricks designer Garrett Gourley designed this set in microscale for the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
“I truly enjoy building miniscale architecture models,” Garrett says. He designed Playwell Bricks’ custom Skywalker Ranch house set in the same scale. “I pride myself in trying to capture every detail to showcase the true details of the scale of a building in a small form.”
Garrett isn’t kidding about capturing those details. “This particular model has an angled wing of the building. With the minimal parts count and designed for stability, it came as a challenge for the connection to be stable.” He grins. “A challenge is something I love to overcome and I cannot be prouder of the end result!”
getting technical
Did Garrett learn anything designing this custom hospital set? “I learned stability comes with time,” he answers. “Most of the walls are paneled with clear plates that do not interlock with any other structure until the roof is put on. Instead, sections were made one brick at a time to secure them in one section, then have the next brick be the roofing, locking everything into position.”
conclusion
Garrett is proud of his design, but that isn’t all. “I’m also proud to have created this build for a client who is expanding healthcare support for children. These facilities are designed to be a safe place for kids and families when they are in need of support.”
Way to go, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta!
