Playwell Bricks is pleased to announce our latest set, created in collaboration with the Zimmer Group, a global leader in automation technology. Known for their cutting-edge solutions in automation technology, the Zimmer Group approached us to design and build a custom Playwell Bricks set that captures the essence of their flexible robot cell, ZiMo. These sets would be handed out at an important trade show where the Zimmer Group planned showcase the ZiMo and launch a special new tool.

The Zimmer Group specializes in the grippers, tool changers, and accessories that go on the end of robot arms. They explained to the team that the ZiMo cart is meant to be a helping hand that allows their clients to shift into automation without complex barriers. With the ability to change tools, pick and place tools, the ZiMo is also mobile enough to move along a production line. These elements, our contact stressed, should be represented in the final set.

“The thing that stands out in this build is that arm because that was something Zimmer Group wanted included and with multifunctionality,” explains Playwell Bricks CEO Jason Pyett. Playwell Bricks designer James May was tapped to bring this robot to (brick) life. They were careful to include the robot arm’s pickers, grippers, as well as the vacuum gripper that would be revealed at the same tradeshow as these sets, in the ZiMo’s design.

After the ZiMo sets were produced and delivered, the Zimmer Group got back to Playwell Bricks with the happy news that their HQ loved the sets. "I’m thrilled with how our ZiMo turned out!
