Playwell Bricks partnered with the Zimmer Group, a global leader in automation technology, to create a custom 102-piece Playwell Bricks set. The set was designed to replicate the Zimmer Group’s flexible robot cell, ZiMo, and serve as a unique promotional giveaway at a key trade show where the company was unveiling a new tool.

Zimmer Group needed a creative and memorable way to showcase the ZiMo’s features to trade show attendees. The set needed to capture the robot cell’s multifunctional design, tool-changing capabilities, and mobility while staying true to the brand’s innovative spirit. It also had to incorporate ZiMo’s grippers, tool changers, and a special vacuum gripper being revealed at the event.

Playwell Bricks designer James May took on the challenge of translating the ZiMo into brick form, ensuring every key detail was faithfully represented. The final design included the signature robotic arm, complete with interchangeable pickers, grippers, and the newly launched vacuum gripper. CEO Jason Pyett highlighted the importance of the arm’s multifunctionality, a core feature that the Zimmer Group wanted emphasized.

The custom ZiMo sets were a hit at the trade show, providing attendees with a hands-on, brand-connected keepsake. After the event, the Zimmer Group’s headquarters reached out to share their enthusiasm, confirming that the sets exceeded expectations and made a lasting impression.
