Microsoft Gaming’s Xbox Game Studios spent years developing Towerborne, an action RPG that pivots around a central point called the Belfry. This Belfry represents a sanctuary of humanity, so when Microsoft wanted a custom Playwell Bricks set to gift the employees who worked on the game, the Belfry was the perfect subject to enbrickify.

The windmill depicted above is the Belfry of the game; but don’t let it’s brick-size fool you, this Belfry is home to all of humanity in the game. In the game trailer, Xbox describes it as “our people’s only hope for survival.” Given that the recipients of this special set fully understand the importance of this Belfry, it had to be carefully captured in bricks.
NO BATS IN THIS BELFRY
Playwell Bricks designer Pedro Lara is happy to talk about his design. “It was a very fun set to produce because it has a very funky steampunk design. The original references [Microsoft sent] had an infinite amount of details, so it was tricky to create a decent greebling for it.”
If, like me, you’re curious about the term greebling, then you’re in luck, but I’ve already looked it up for both of us. Greebling is brick design technique used to add texture and a sense of depth and detail to the custom set.
“The windmill design is simple, but effective and fun,” Pedro goes on. “It’s the small details that make this set stand out.” And do they ever!
