Von Ardenne is an international high-tech mechanical engineering company that specializes in vacuum-coating systems for various industry materials. With a heavy tradeshow presence, Von Ardenne contacted Playwell Bricks to discuss a promotional item.

Playwell’s contact at Von Ardenne explained that they’d been seeing Playwell Bricks sets on the tradeshow circuit. They were impressed at the appeal there was for industrial equipment sets, not just in the booth, but to take home and display as well. They confided that, more than just a giveaway, they hoped to add a custom set of one of their products to their marketing portfolio, something tangible that could give potential clients a feel for the product as well as a memorable visual.

Von Ardenne shared photos of their HISS600 Horizontal Coating System, the machine they hoped to see recreated in bricks.

Working from these photos, Playwell Bricks designer Pedro Lara drafted the first concept. Von Ardenne had explained that they would like to see as much detail as possible, and Pedro kept this in mind, employing decals for details that bricks could not convey at Von Ardenne’s preferred scale.

Working with each concept, Von Ardenne gave careful feedback and requested tweaks to certain structures and colours, which Pedro attended to. Finally, the result was a custom HISS600 set that even the team that built it could be proud of.

Next up came the graphics team, test build, production, shipping, and creating the build instructions for Von Ardenne’s recipients and potential clients.
