In 2024, New England Biolabs Canada, a life sciences company specializing in reagent solutions, turns 50. That’s a truly impressive age for a company! To celebrate this occasion, New England Biolabs had a very special commission for Playwell Bricks.

The life sciences company wanted a custom Playwell Bricks set of one of their very own biolabs to celebrate “50 years of passion for science.” In addition, they also wanted this lab to be stocked with New England Biolabs’ products and a custom minifig scientist in a lab coat.

Calling on his own experiences in a lab setting, Playwell Bricks CEO Jason Pyett took on this design himself. Working from discussions with the Biolabs team and the photographs they sent, Jason worked at creating brick versions of their lab equipment.

Next, he had the graphics of New England Biolabs’ bestselling Monarch Total RNA Miniprep Kit as well as the cover of their pdf guide, RNA Synthesis for Template and Transcript, printed directly onto bricks to stock the lab.

Tailoring these details to a client’s business is definitely one of the biggest features of commissioning a custom Playwell Bricks set, and these branding details make such a meaningful difference in the final design!

After the sets were delivered, the team here at Playwell Bricks learned that New England Biolabs has a habit of commissioning custom brick sets of their labs created when each national branch turns 50, using a design company who also hails from that branch’s country. Now that’s a tradition brick fans can appreciate!
