The Challenge
Playwell’s contact at Synoligo let the team know that they were looking for the first in a series of modular sets that their clients could collect. This meant that this set needed to be designed so that future sets could easily be added to it. As Synoligo wanted this set to appeal to laboratory teams while also showcasing the Synoligo brand, their team decided on a custom lab bench.
The Solution
As the parts budget for this set was limited, “what stood out was the constant balancing between part count and detail,” Playwell Bricks designer Eric Dubois Yang explains. “This showed up especially with what was presented on the bench. There were a lot of times when I needed to take a jar off the shelf because I needed a part somewhere else.
“Modularity was important to the client, so pins, connectors, and holes were included to form a series, just like they would be in a real-life lab setting,” he went on to say.
“The client wanted to have as many pieces of equipment as possible within the budgeted part count. For example, the small blue machine represents a PCR machine, and the box can slide out and open.”
In addition to logo decals on the set itself, Synoligo’s marketing content was also embedded into the instructions the recipients must follow to build this set. This way, as the client builds, they learn about the Synoligo brand and what it does.
The Result
