One of their tools to accomplish this, the Otter Pup 2, is the subject of this next Playwell Bricks set, commissioned as a gift for employees at Starfish Space.

The Otter Pup 2 is Starfish Space’s opportunity to test their software and hardware tech while in orbit, employing their Cetacean and Cephalopod software, as well as their Nautilus docking hardware. The Otter Pup 2’s small size relative to satellites and electric propulsion make the Otter Pup 2’s repairs and refueling more affordable than alternatives. Playwell Bricks designer Eric Dubois Yang worked with Playwell’s Starfish Space contact to bring this set to life. By employing simple graphics to show Eric their suggestions, it was easy for him to understand and incorporate the small changes they wanted, like adding a yellow brick to the end of the thrusters, which their team would understand to mean that the thrusters were active.

“It was an easy design,” Eric recalls. “It’s basically a box, but one of the biggest difficulties was that I want the bottom of the box to also have studs. I had to balance that with making the building process as simple as possible, which meant that my core was actually made of two identical halves to pull it off.”
