RH Aerial Lift Equipment has been innovating in the hydraulic aerial ladder field since 1991, and this year, they’ve introduced their new Elite Division: RHED. “We’re setting a new standard for emergency, rescue, and firefighting vehicles,” their website reads. “Agile. Tactical. Built to reach where others can’t.” As part of this launch, RH came to Playwell Bricks to commission a custom set of their tactical fire truck.
Tactical Design
The team at RH came prepared, offering the Playwell Bricks team a .pdf file containing photos of other brick-built fire trucks and pointing out where their tactical fire truck differed so the Playwell designers could best understand what they wanted for their set.
Playwell Bricks team member Petrus Gartler was tapped to bring this set to life, and he was thrilled to do so. “Isn't designing a fire truck every small kid’s dream? I think yes, it is!” he said.
“As a product designer it was even more fun since the truck is a really cool design too,” Petrus continues. “The scale of the model was a perfect fit to put in nice details and at the same time being a bit of a challenge to make it look like the original vehicle. I am especially happy with the design of the cabin's A-pillars and the ladder.”
But this set wasn’t without its challenges. “As in many other projects the test build turned out to be an important stage in our design process: Even with a lot of knowledge about mechanics and the stability of bricks you need to make sure the hinge is strong enough to hold the weight of the ladder,” explains Petrus. When you’re representing a company that specializes in this kind of ladder, that’s a detail you absolutely have to perfect.
Tactical Marketing
Cleverly, RH took advantage of their set’s build instructions to use the building process as a tool to point out specific capabilities and strengths of the tactical fire truck, from the reinforced suspension to the removable winch and full 360-degree rotation turret for the ladder. All of this reinforces the RHED promise of being “built to reach where others can’t” while their recipients are fully engaged with building this custom Playwell Bricks set. As a marketing tool, they’ve taken this set to the next level.
Conclusion
The team at RH Aerial Lift Equipment was thrilled with their finished set. They reached out to tell Playwell Bricks it was “An amazing project! We had the pleasure of working with a fantastic and highly professional team throughout this build. The attention to detail, expertise, and collaborative approach truly made the difference. Thanks.”
Their team also made an amazing build video, which can be viewed here.
