Pentair is a water treatment company that offers residential, commercial, and industrial water solutions. Every year, Pentair hosts a leadership meeting for their senior executives and sales leaders, and for this year’s event, Pentair contacted Playwell Bricks to commission a special custom brick set that incorporates their water focus.

During their discovery call, the client explained that sometimes building bricks were used as an interactive activity in these events, so a brick set would be a nice tie-in gift for their attendees. They explained that they pictured a water scene for their set. A wave would be ideal, cresting over Pentair’s stylized fish logo, where the triangles represent scales. Was that something the team at Playwell Bricks could create?

Of course! Playwell Bricks team member Norman Rolden got started on the wave design right away.

“What stood out to me was how easily the Pentair corporate logo lent itself to the use of triangular tiles. It was almost as if the logo was designed using brick pieces,” Norm recalls with a laugh.

“It was very pleasurable to design the wave, as it felt more like sculpting nature,” he went on to explain. “I referenced plenty of ocean wave stock photography as a source of inspiration and to do my best to imbue the essence of its most characteristic features.

“In the end, I felt it turned out to be a very elegant model. I really like how well the hinge worked out for the logo in terms of strength and its ability to store business cards well.”

After Pentair approved Norm’s design, this set shifted into production, bulk manufacturing and packaging 150 of these custom Pentair sets and delivering them for their annual event.
