PDQ is a rocket-fueled launch system for IT devices, allowing companies to blast through software deployment and patching, and streamline system admin tasks with ease. So when they came to Playwell Bricks looking for a custom set for an employee gift, it was no surprise that they wanted a rocket ship. Not a slick, buildable rocket that NASA might make, but a fun, pop version one.

Playwell Bricks designer Michael Clark was tapped for this design. “Years ago, I made a playable brick game with rocket ships, so it felt nostalgic to do this,” he tells me.

His first design for the PDQ rocket involved technic hinges and a few parts that he didn’t like the look of. He wanted the fuselage to be studs up and he searched for a creative way to include PDQ’s brand colours. After the first concept was sent to the client, they requested a few darker blues, then smaller fins. They also pointed out a few details that they really liked, asking Michael to make sure to keep those in the final set.

Michael found a way to include the corporate colours: in the rocket’s exhaust fumes. “It was fun to try and incorporate them there,” he admits, and the colours do look amazing.

But more importantly, what did the client think of their final sets? “We are so happy with the sets - they look great!,” they told the team. “I would absolutely recommend you all to anyone that's interested. The process was so easy, and communication was wonderful. I don't have anyone that comes to mind at this time but will be more than happy to recommend you all if anything comes up. 10/10 from me on experience and service! You guys were great to work with - again very easy process and great communication.”
