Every year, the Northern Illinois University (NIU) Alumni Association hosts a major fundraiser, the Huskies United Day of Giving, to raise funds for scholarships, research, and student experiences. In honour of the year NIU was founded, this fundraiser runs for exactly 1895 minutes. The alumni who donate get more than bragging rights and a tax receipt; they also unlock tiers of NIU swag.
BUILDABLE SWAG
In 2025, two of these tiers were filled with custom Playwell Bricks sets commissioned for the event, the custom Altgeld Hall set and a buildable version of NIU’s Huskies Pride Sculpture. This sculpture, which depicts the NIU logo in bright letters, stands outside the Holmes Student Center on the NIU campus and features in many of the university’s promotional images. When alumni sees these letters, they know exactly what it is.
With this custom set, made available to donors of $75 or more, alumni will be able to build this iconic logo and display their Huskies pride in their offices or at home. Of course, while the sculpture is taller than the average person, the brick version can easily fit on a desk or a bookshelf, perhaps beside a framed photo of the alumni posing with the same sculpture.
AN ENORMOUS SUCCESS
The NIU Alumni Association happily announced that their 2025 Day of Giving was an absolute success, raising funds beyond their expectations. They cited the Huskies spirit in so many of their donors that led to this success, something that they intentionally stoked with their series of well-planned bespoke gifts that Playwell Bricks was proud to be a part of.
As these sets began to make their way to the donors, the funds raised will go towards strengthening NIU students’ education as they make their way to becoming future alumni themselves. Go Huskies!
