When Nexans planned the 2025 Nexans Innovation Summit to bring together the industry leaders in global electrification and sustainable solutions, they looked to Roadwerx, an experiential marketing and event production agency, to make sure their event was a success. It was Roadwerx who contacted Playwell Bricks, looking for a custom set to represent Nexans that they could give away as a gift to attendees of the conference.
The Nexans Aurora
From the outset, Roadwerx knew they wanted this custom set to be of the Nexans Aurora ship. This ship is Nexan’s flagship cable lay vessel and plays a significant role in their sustainable solutions. How so? The Aurora is used to lay massive cables on the ocean floor to transport the energy created in offshore wind farms.
The Aurora’s turntable is engineered to carry up to 10 000 metric tons of these cables, and her dynamic positioning can hold her in place within 1-2 meters. All this, while also accommodating no less than ninety crew cabins. She’s an impressive vessel and the perfect subject for the custom Playwell Bricks set.
Designing the Brick Aurora
Playwell Bricks CEO and lead designer Jason Pyett recreated the Nexans Aurora in bricks, working closely with Roadwerx to get all the details, right down to the font of the logo decals, perfect.
Nexans and Roadwerx also took advantage of the Playwell Bricks build instructions to carry Nexans brand messaging and help recipients learn more about the Aurora as they build.
As the builder pieces the model together, the instructions were designed to explain just what they were building, from those ninety crew cabins to the specially designed hull that enables the Aurora to work in shallow waters despite the considerable weight carried aboard. Sharing this information while Nexans’ recipients are actively building the set makes that knowledge a part of the positive experience that they are sure to remember for years to come.
