Montclair State University’s Orientation team knew the importance of introducing and acclimating new students to campus culture and identity. That includes the campus sports teams and mascot, Rocky the Red Hawk. So when they wanted to commission a custom Playwell Bricks set as a gift, Rocky the Red Hawk was the perfect subject to be reimagined in bricks.

Playwell Bricks team member Pedro Lara designed this character set. “It was a fun experience because, as always, creating animals in this small scale using Playwell Bricks is no easy feat,” he explains. “Client communication was fundamental as we ran into several iterations with the client to make a model that they were happy with and in the end, we managed to do exactly what they wanted, thanks to that good communication.”

Pedro tells me that he started designing the hawk’s beak and “that settled the scale for the rest of the model. There are no technical marvels in this design,” he admits, “but the beak and the fists are very simple and pleasing, even on this tiny scale.”

“I believe both the design team and the client were happy with the result of this set,” Pedro says.

And he’s right. The client offered Playwell this feedback after the sets were complete and delivered, “10/10. The team was professional, responsive, and attentive to detail.
