Migros Bank was founded in 1958 by Swiss businessman Gottlieb Duttweiler. With 67 branches in the country of Switzerland, this bank is dedicated to helping customers make the best financial decisions possible, with a human touch. When the bank wanted to celebrate the people providing that human touch, they reached out to Playwell Bricks about a custom-designed client appreciation gift.

An Employee Gift

At their discovery call, a representative from Migros Bank explained that they wanted a nice gift for their team and a chance to build a micro bank branch of their own; something that would evoke an emotional link between them and their employer.

The important thing, they explained, was that the final set should be instantly recognizable as a branded, corporate design branch of Migros Bank. Before they got started, they wanted to make sure that Playwell Bricks could brand this set with Migros Bank’s corporate colours and logo (spoiler: Playwell Bricks can and did).

Branch of the Future

Playwell Bricks designer Eric Dubois Yang began his design using pictures of their branches sent from Migros Bank. Recreating the bank lobby in miniature meant matching the corporate architecture and furniture. The biggest design challenge came from the unique circular light fixture. As unusual as it was, Eric knew this feature would do some heavy lifting in making this set instantly recognizable as Migros Bank, so he had to get it right. Trying multiple building methods and testing the strength, he was able to include it in the final design.

The Playwell Bricks graphic design team was easily able to feature the Migros Bank logo on the exterior part of this custom set, but the posters the client sent over to include on the inside caused some issues. The words on the posters were simply too big to be recreated legibly in miniature. After some discussion, the client agreed to use a smaller version of their logo to replace these corporate posters, which helps to capture the look and colours of the real bank branch.

With the design complete, the client sent over the marketing content they wanted included in the build instructions, pulling the final details of this set together. Translated from the original German, this content read, “Growing together, brick by brick. The branch of the future is more than a set of building blocks…”

Indeed it is.
