The Towerborne team at Microsoft Studios Xbox Game Studios spent years developing their action-RPG. At the heart of the game lies a large windmill named the Belfry, the home of all humanity within the realm of the game. It’s a sanctuary from danger, a safe haven, and a fascinating, multilayered city.

Now that the project was wrapping up, Microsoft wanted a milestone gift for the crew that worked on the game. Ideally, it would be a gift that would bring back positive memories of the time spent creating the game together, and also something especially meaningful of the project itself. A keepsake of what they’d created that they could hold on to, touch, and engage with. Something that would last throughout their careers and the many games in their future.

Microsoft Studios Xbox Game Studios decided that a custom Playwell Bricks of the Belfry, the symbol of hope in the center of the Towerborne game, would be the most meaningful gift they could give. From the time spent creating the many layers of the Belfry, to the symbolism of that same Belfry as hope for humanity, this would be a gift that works on many levels.

Playwell Bricks designer Pedro Lara admits the Belfry was “a very fun set to produce because it has a very steampunk design.” At a limit of only 150 pieces for this project, his design skills were tested to represent that style, but Pedro knows what he is doing. “The windmill design is simple, but effective and fun,” he says. “It’s the small details that make this set stand out.”
