How Metrocare Celebrated the New Mental Health and Disability Innovation Center

Introduction

Metrocare is North Texas’ largest provider of mental health care, serving approximately 50,000 each year. In 2025, the organization opened its newest and most ambitious project: the Mental Health & Disability Innovation Center at Hillside. Designed to bring healing, innovation, and community together under one roof, the new campus represented a milestone worth commemorating.

To celebrate this achievement and honor the donors and key players who made it possible, Metrocare wanted something truly special, a keepsake that captured both the beauty of the new space and the meaning behind it.

The Challenge

Metrocare needed a commemorative gift that would stand out, feel personal, and align with the Center’s mission of growth and connection. They wanted recipients to hold something tactile and lasting. Something that told a story of care and creativity while showcasing their stunning new facility.

Having seen custom brick sets used for similar occasions, the idea of a buildable model of the Mental Health & Disability Innovation Center at Hillside immediately resonated. The challenge was translating the building’s striking design, an abundance of glass, natural light, and distinctive wedge-shaped terrace into a miniature set that still felt authentic to the real architecture.

The Solution

Playwell Bricks CEO and designer Jason Pyett led the design, drawing on his passion for architectural builds. The goal was to balance accuracy with artistry, capturing the essence of the building rather than strict proportions.

The Playwell team worked closely with Metrocare to emphasize the key features that made the Center special: light, openness, and form. When the first prototype revealed that the terrace wasn’t quite pronounced enough, Jason adjusted the design to enhance the building’s recognizable wedge.

Once finalized, Playwell Bricks moved into production, creating sets complete with custom packaging and detailed build instructions for Metrocare’s recipients.

The Result

When Metrocare opened the Mental Health & Disability Innovation Center at Hillside r on September 25, 2025, they also unveiled their commemorative brick sets, gifts that captured both the heart and structure of their new home.

The sets were met with enthusiasm and pride, serving as beautiful, meaningful reminders of what Metrocare has built, both physically and within their community.

For Playwell Bricks, the project represented more than just another architectural commission. It was a collaboration rooted in shared values: creativity, care, and the belief that meaningful builds can tell powerful stories.
