Introduction
When McClone Construction reached its 50th anniversary, the milestone called for something more meaningful than a plaque or photo op. The Wisconsin-based construction company known for its bridges, parking garages, and over 1,300 completed structures wanted a gift that reflected its people, its process, and its pride in what they build every day.
The Challenge
McClone knew from the beginning what they wanted: a parking garage. But not just any parking garage, a model that captured the process of construction, not the finished product.
They envisioned a build that would showcase the signature red beams and formwork systems McClone is known for, while keeping within a fixed budget and piece count. The challenge lay in balancing realism, playfulness, and structural feasibility while also creating something employees would truly connect with.
The Solution
Playwell Bricks designer Eric Dubois Yang began by exploring how much verticality he could achieve within the part count. Once the structure was defined, he incorporated McClone’s distinctive construction details, including red beams that mirror their real-world methods.
To tie in the company’s milestone, Eric added a golden 50 to the front of the garage, while the graphics team created printed bricks featuring the McClone logo, a playful nod to miniature cars parked within the build.
The set also included a custom minifigure construction worker, complete with a safety vest and hardhat, symbolizing the people behind every project.
The Result
The final design struck a perfect balance between realism and creativity. McClone’s team was thrilled with the finished sets, which became memorable employee gifts celebrating both the company’s 50-year journey and its continued commitment to building strong foundations, literally and figuratively.
