Lenovo is well-known as one of the world’s largest personal computer suppliers and the powerhouse behind Thinkpad and Motorola. Earlier this year, Lenovo was launching its new Lenovo Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 rack and came to Playwell Bricks to commission a custom-designed set as a promotional giveaway.

Playwell’s contact at Lenovo explained that they’d seen the sets Playwell Bricks designed for another company and were waiting for the right opportunity to commission their own set. This launch was the opportunity they were looking for, and a custom set would be something playful they could send home with potential clients and keep them thinking about these new racks.

There were caveats. The client insisted that this set had to represent Lenovo’s new rack in several key ways, or else they’d have to walk away. This was not the time for half-measures.

With the design deadline being a mere three days away and Lenovo unhappy with the first concept, Playwell Bricks CEO Jason Pyett scheduled a meeting with the Lenovo contact to determine the best way to proceed. Jason had genuine concerns about being able to complete a design this important with so little time left.

Communications across time zones are often tricky, and Jason knew from experience that three days could go by very quickly. Unless… did the client have the next hour free? Maybe Jason could work on the design with the client digitally present, prompting Jason on what the Lenovo team wanted to see.

The client quickly agreed, and soon the pair were deep into the design software, building this rack with Jason’s brick expertise in tandem with the client’s eye for what mattered. “This is kind of fun,” the client admitted after making a suggestion and watching Jason translate that into bricks.

Brick by brick, the model was built, and by the end of the call, the client had signed off on the design they had created together, capturing the details Lenovo wanted to see and hitting the design deadline with three days to spare.

From there, the rest of the Playwell team took over, creating the build instructions, handling bulk manufacture, and finally shipping of these custom Lenovo Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 sets.
