A Tanker, A Gift, A Creative Holiday Solution
Introduction
The Kyklades Maritime Corporation is a fleet service provider with ships named after the Cyclades Islands in Greece (in Greek, Cyclades is spelled Kyklades). They specialize in everything from ship operations to bunking and supplies.
One of their flagship vessels, the Nissos Kythnos, is classified as a VLCC (very large crude carrier) tanker that can carry a whopping two million barrels of oil over long distances.
the challenge
As the Christmas season approached, Kyklades Maritime Corporation started looking for a corporate holiday gift that would go beyond the ordinary. Ideally, the gift would be a thoughtful gesture that would reflect the company’s identity while also leaving a lasting impression on their clients. They wanted something memorable, meaningful, and unmistakably Kyklades.
the solution
Ultimately, Kyklades Maritime Corporation decided to commission a custom Playwell Bricks set of Nissos Kythnos for their clients. Such a set would put them in their client’s minds whenever they saw the completed set, coupled with the delight of receiving the set and the experience of building their own custom oil tankers.
Playwell Bricks CEO, who designed the set, got input from both the Kyklades admin team as well as the ship’s captain to bring her to life. It was important to both that the “stern of the boat showcase the curve there,” he explains, going on to admit that the propellor, another important part of the build, “proved an interesting challenge.”
The result
The Playwell Bricks graphics team created decals of the Kyklades logo for the exhaust tower, helipad markings, and the ever-important “safety first” signs at the front of the bridge.
The finishing touches in place, all 500 sets were ready for delivery… only to get caught up in a customs delay. “Thankfully,” Jason tells me, “we were able to resolve that and Kyklades Maritime Corporation was able to deliver their gifts with only a slight delay.”
