A thunderpumpkin for the whole family!

INNIO’s Waukesha Gas Engines plant in Ontario wanted an employee gift to present at their 4th annual Friends and Family Day. At this plant, the staff work hard on the Waukesha generator engines they’ve affectionately nicknamed “thunderpumpkins.” A custom Playwell Bricks set of those same engines was just the gift to make those families smile.
ENBRICKIFYING THE THUNDERPUMPKIN
In a fun twist, Playwell Bricks designer Paul Lavallee had personally worked at the plant, so he had “intimate knowledge of the important features.” Naturally, Paul was the best designer for this set.
“It was difficult to capture the essence of such a large machine,” Paul tells me. “The real engines are the size of an average pickup truck, so I made sure to try to implement some angles and features that really stood out.
“Most of the real engine is painted a bright orange,” explains Paul. The colour no doubt plays a significant role in the generator’s nickname. “I made sure to add some other colours that stood out, like the white oil filters, black piping, and grey metal accents like the fly wheel.”
CONNECTING MORE THAN JUST BRICKS
“Having worked at the INNIO manufacturing plant and worked personally on manufacturing parts for these engines in the past, I knew I wanted to create the best building set for the client, because I personally knew the people who would be receiving these sets.”
Paul beams as he talks about it. “I received a few text messages from old work colleagues about the engine and that was a great feeling. Knowing how much they were appreciated by the recipients who enjoyed building and displaying them. It kind of felt like giving back to the people who helped me get to where I am now in life.”
