A tiny set of a BIG engine
introduction
Innio is a global company that specializes in gas compression and power generation in the most challenging and remote environments. In their Waukesha branch, large power generator engines known as the INNIO Waukesha VHP Engine is the primary product made. The term “large” is almost misleading, as this engine is the size of an oversized truck.
the challenge
The Waukesha plant in Welland, Ontario, hosted a special family day last summer. These events allow the workers to bring their family, close friends, and children to the plant, a place that would normally be too dangerous to host children and untrained peoples. It means a lot to these employees to have the chance to share what they do with their families.
Innio wanted to mark this occasion with a special gift for everyone who attended this event, but how do you find a gift that will thrill a seasoned plant worker as well as Joe the Supervisor’s five year old?
the solution
A perfect gift for everyone across the generations? Innio knew what to do: they commissioned a custom Playwell Bricks set of the engine the Welland Waukesha plant specialized in creating: the INNIO Waukesha VHP Engine, affectionately nicknamed “Thunderpumpkin” by plant workers.
Even better, Playwell Bricks designer Paul Lavallee used to work at this very plant and helped to manufacture parts for this very engine! Intimate knowledge he was more than happy to bring to the design table for this custom Playwell Bricks set.
the result
Paul is very proud of this set. “I knew I wanted to create the best building set for the client because I personally knew the people who would be receiving them,” he says. “I received a few text messages from my old work colleagues about this custom Playwell Bricks engine set and that was great feeling. Knowing how much they are appreciated by the final individuals, who enjoyed building and displaying them. It kind of felt like giving back to the people who helped me to get to where I am now in life.”
