Star Wars ™ and IT departments seems to go hand-in-hand. In this project, the client was looking for a gift to mark a significant milestone for their IT department. They imagined a custom Playwell Bricks set similar to the LEGO® groups Ultimate Collector’s Series plaques, but with some sort of embellishment added.

Playwell Bricks knew just what to do.

Playwell Bricks CEO Jason Pyett handled the design of this set. After all, it was a Star Wars™ set that first ignited the passion that led Jason to create Playwell Bricks all those years ago. He’s got a soft spot for the Star Wars™ universe.

“It was fun to challenge myself to design a micro version of an X-wing that could be small enough to be attached to the plaque without causing it to be unstable,” Jason explains.

He’s quite proud of that X-wing. “Being able to create a specific ship with such a simple assortment of parts, while still defining the characteristics of it was a very interesting challenge.”

Sadly, what should have been a fun project succumbed to the Dark Side. The client wanted a rush job to meet their deadline, which Jason was happy to agree to, but due to the nature of custom design, there are certain stop gaps where the client must approve things before the next steps can be taken.

The dark side was “more about client communication than anything. If a client wants a rush job, but fails to communicate properly, that makes the entire project incredibly stressful. We always stress that when we take on a project, because communication is so, so important.”
