ENI is an energy company operating in the Republic of the Congo. Off the coast of Congo, ENI is focussed on increasing production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for both domestic and European markets. This project has been a major undertaking spanning years, and as they reached a major milestone, ENI wanted a special gift to commemorate the occasion.
Nguya FLNG
Playwell’s contact at ENI Congo explained that they wanted a custom Playwell Bricks set that features their Congo LNG project’s vessel known as the Nguya FLNG. This vessel is a floating liquefied natural gas plant that represents the second phase of the Congo LNG project. Due to the nature of the vessel, it would be important to represent the piping on board the vessel in the brick set, as it is the ship’s main function.
Playwell Bricks designer Yvonne Strijbos created this custom set from photos and guides provided by ENI. “It’s not easy to the right feel of a ship that has 10 million or more pipes in real life down to this scale, but I do think this set is a recognisable miniature of the Nguya FLNG.”
She goes on to explain that she accomplishes this by “focusing on some of the more prominent structures and compressing the rest.” Certainly, this method is effective, as the final set represents the Nguya FLNG well.
Packaging and Instructions
Packaging was equally important to this client, who wanted certain flags visible on the box, as well as the slogan, “Quand on s’engage, on le fait!” which translates roughly to “When you commit, you do it!” in English.
The ENI team also wanted a message from their CEO, a mission statement with goals and objectives, as well as explanatory infographics throughout the Build Instructions for this custom set. For a set this large, the instructions are quite hefty, requiring extra time and attention from the Playwell graphics team not just for formatting, but to keep the builders engaged as they put their bricks together.

Upon completion, 500 of these sets were bulk-manufactured and delivered to ENI in the Republic of Congo to help commemorate their milestone.
