Elk Grove is a village located outside of Chicago, Illinois (U.S.A.) with approximately 33 000 residents. 2026 marked the village’s 70th anniversary, a milestone that the village council wanted to commemorate. They reached out to Playwell Bricks to see about a custom-designed brick set that would represent the village.
A Clock Tower
A representative from the village explained during their discovery call that they wanted a set that they could give out which villagers would instantly recognize as iconic of the village. They explained that the clock tower stood out as the centerpiece of their village and was a source of deep community pride. Ideally, they’d like to see this clock tower reimagined as a brick set.
Playwell Bricks designer Eric Dubois Yang studied photographs of the clock tower and set about bringing the client’s vision to life. There was some internal discussion in the Playwell team to get Eric’s first concept under the parts budget, with other designers weighing in on the discussion and best practices to get this clock tower to look just like the real thing, in 119 pieces. Ultimately, the internal discussion paid off, with the client approving the first version of the model the team sent.
The faces of the clock on the tower, as well as the arches reading “Elk Grove Village,” were represented by decals created by the Playwell design team. Once they completed the packaging and the Build Instructions, this set was ready for its Elk Grove Village debut.
An Anniversary Scavenger Hunt
A few weeks after these sets were delivered, the client reached out to the Playwell team to explain that, “We got these sets for the purpose of raffling off to those who complete and win our summer scavenger hunt around the Village. So, we have used the sets in promoting the scavenger hunt a lot!” What a brick-tastic way to commemorate the village anniversary.
