In D1 Milano’s mission statement, the company expresses their desire to “bridge innovation and the unconventional.” The Italian watch manufacturer has developed a brand that speaks of distinctive style and quality; gathering attention from watch enthusiasts from all over the world.

Christmas was coming up and D1 Milano wanted a special gift for their clients in Hong Kong and Dubai. DI Milano wanted a gift that represented their brand well, aligned with their mission, and would give their recipients an unconventional, playful way to engage with D1 Milano’s brand.

D1 Milano commissioned a very special custom Playwell Bricks set of one of their bestselling watches, the Polycarbon Shadow. This monochromatic black watch offers a distinctive and minimalist look that certainly captures the eye. “Time flies,” says the catalogue entry, “but shadows always prevail.”

Playwell Bricks CEO and lead designer Jason Pyett designed the brick version of this beautiful watch, paying extra attention to the technically challenging watch strap. While D1 Milano emphasized “form over function,” the test builders of this design were delighted at how well this strap held up to stress.

D1 Milano happily approved the final design and sent out these unconventional gifts inside the Shadow’s own packaging.
