Cummins Power Generation offers reliable power systems for a range of customers around the world. In response to changing power needs, Cummins launched the QSK78 as the next addition to its Centum™ Series Generator Sets to the 50Hz market in late spring 2026. As part of this launch, a representative of Cummins commissioned a custom Playwell Bricks model of the QSK78 powered generator sets.
From Photos to Bricks
The client explained to the Playwell team the size of sets they were looking for, sharing some photos of the QSK78 generator set. The completed sets would need to be shipped to both the U.S.A. and Spain, and they wanted to ensure that the Spain-bound sets had plenty of time to get through customs.
Playwell Bricks designer Eric Dubois Yang started the design without delay. When he designs these sets, he often hones in on a particular part of the subject and translates that one part into bricks. From there, he builds the rest, using that first section to scale every other.
Once complete, Eric’s first concept was shown to the client for feedback.
Perfecting the Model
This feedback from the client is crucial to the development of sets like these; the eye of someone in the industry to point out details that might have been lost in miniature but are necessary to capture the spirit or function of the subject. In this case, the client requested tubing be added to the sides, the top adjusted to match the unit’s signature look, as well as details like changing which side of the generator the control panel should be on.
“The black block in front is a grill that contains a fan, but we simplified it to keep the project on schedule,” explains Eric.
Since this was commissioned as a promotional giveaway, Eric took care to ensure this custom set was “easy to build, perfect for conventions, while the different bar pieces give the set some interesting texture despite this set offering a fairly straightforward experience.”
The final details included decals showing the Cummins and Centum™ logos and the control panel on the side of the generator set. After the packaging was complete, Cummins’ marketing content was embedded into the build instructions, and these sets were ready to ship to Spain and to the U.S.A. for the QSK78 launch.
