Making the Grade for the County of Minburn

There’s one thing rural Alberta roads welcome the sight of: the county grader. This mighty piece of heavy equipment is used to flatten the surface of unpaved roads, removing potholes and allowing water to shed into the ditches, making travel safer and more comfortable for citizens and agricultural equipment.
The County of Minburn No. 27 is no different, so when this County wanted a promotional giveaway, they contacted Playwell Bricks to see what could be done. During their discovery call, they decided upon a microscale road grader that matched their needs and budget.

DESIGNING THE GRADE
From there, Playwell Bricks designer Petrus Gartler started on the initial design for this custom set. These designs are then sent to the client for approvals and/or suggestions, until the client is happy and the final design is reached.
Petrus is happy to discuss his experience designing this set. “It was a bit of an experiment with techniques I have never used before and it worked out! I did a lot of physical testing to make sure stability and build experience will be fine.
“The weird angle of the front part of the grader was achieved by using a hinge that levels the whole vehicle just by placing it on the table. First, I thought this would be not enough regarding stability, but it turned out I was wrong.”
MAKING THE GRADE
“Don’t be afraid to try new ways,” Petrus goes on. “Try something unusual, it may lead to a good solution.”
Trying those new ways worked well for Petrus, earning this set accolades from both the Playwell team and the client. “That was by far the best design you’ve done to date, in my opinion! Really great job!” said Playwell Bricks CEO Jason Pyett. Fellow Playwell designer Jared Oswald agreed, “I absolutely love this thing.”
Ultimately, it’s the client that matters most. “The Playwell team were great to work with, kept me in the loop throughout the build, and provided a customized product that exceeded my expectations,” they wrote.
