Commercetools is in the business of providing an ever-evolving e-commerce platform for their clients. Not long ago, they commissioned a custom Playwell Bricks racecar set to highlight their turbo-charged flexibility to help businesses speed to their markets. So when commercetools wanted a commemorative gift to honour motor vehicle manufacturer International, they remembered their positive experience and came back to Playwell Bricks.

Rather than a racecar, commercetools wanted a tractor-trailer, or transport, truck like the ones International manufactures. Instead of smaller sets, they wanted a BIG one. Playwell Bricks CEO Jason Pyett shared with them the transport Playwell Bricks had designed in its early days for Fr8 Solutions and it was just the right size.

Now the team needed to give the original design an overhaul to look like International’s 2025 LT series and change the aesthetics to represent the new brand. Playwell Bricks designer Eric Dubois Yang handled the set changes and Kostik Poloskin took care of the graphics, redesigning this set into a sleek International.

This set was made with LEGO® Technic™ parts rather than the usual bricks, which gives the model a studless look. For the layperson, Technic™ uses interconnecting rods and parts rather than the usual studded bricks. These special parts were developed especially to create working vehicles and to teach users the basics of modern engineering.

What does that mean for this set? Playwell Bricks’ Michael Hyde, the team member who did the test build and readied this set for shipping, explains how they improve the playability and functionality of the set. “The pistons in the engine go up and down when you roll the truck. Also, the front wheels can be turned via a small Technic™ cog on the back of the cab. This also turns the wheel inside the cab.”

Due to the size of this set, commercetools requested that this custom Playwell Bricks set be sent as a completed build. Once this set was put together, Michael Hyde packed the truck carefully into a Pelican case for shipping, and this set was off to its destination.
