The Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences is a West Virginia facility that hosts a planetarium, exhibition hall, art museum, and a science museum. For the 2025 holiday season, the Clay Center planned to offer patrons a passport program wherein they could collect stamps for every admission to Clay Center events during November and December. The patrons could then use these stamps to earn prizes.

Playwell’s contact at the Clay Center explained that they wanted to commission a custom Playwell Bricks that would represent the state the Center calls home: West Virginia. This set would then be the grand prize for the Clay Center’s Wonder Season Passport.

Working with the client’s ideas, the Playwell Bricks designer created a base in the shape of West Virginia as one would see it on a map. Atop of this base, mountains were added to represent “the Mountain State” complete with a waterfall running from one of the slopes.

Pink flowers, to represent the state flower (rhododendron) were added, followed by a black bear, which is, you guessed it, West Virginia’s state animal. They represent the perseverance and tenacity of West Virginians, and that’s certainly something to be proud of.

The final touch on this custom Playwell Bricks is a decal reading “The Clay Center” to remind the winning patrons of the loyalty that won them this grand prize.
