Founded in 1955, CBCL Limited is an engineering and environmental consulting firm that provides design, project management, and construction management services, including specialized sectors. A representative from CBCL reached out to Playwell Bricks to see about a custom set that they could give out at trade shows. 

During their discovery call, the client explained that they were looking for a trade show item that would appeal to their clients in the renewables sector. This set would go along with the narwhal set that CBCL commissioned for Northern clients. They planned to include marketing content related to CBCL’s engineering, environmental and sustainability projects in the build instructions of both of these sets. An intentionally appealing build that spoke to their client’s interests was just the thing to get CBCL’s brand and content into their hands. 

Playwell Bricks designer Eric Dubois Yang has designed his fair share of wind turbines for Playwell Bricks clients, so it didn’t take him long to have a concept ready for the client’s feedback. The client liked that set, but it was missing something. “Can you include a photovoltaic array at the base?” (For lay-folk like myself, that means solar panels.)

Eric studied the concept he’d developed. “I made the base smaller so I could create that array without going over budget,” he explains. The result had the same stability, and the client was happy.
