Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania (U.S.A.) is home of the Bryn Mawr Fire Department, a fire brigade that’s served the area for over a hundred years. What’s more iconic of a fire house than of its fire engines? Not much! That’s why, when a fellow firefighter was retiring, their crew mate commissioned a custom Playwell Bricks set of Bryn Mawr’s own Ladder 23.
DESIGN AND ENBRICKIFICATION
The enbrickification of this engine fell to Playwell Bricks designer Petrus Gartler. “It was a fun build for me,” he says. Part of the fun was that American fire trucks are very different from the Austrian fire engines Petrus is accustomed to seeing.
“Technically, it was pretty straight forward, just a nice, large truck in minifigure scale with some simple functions,” Petrus explains. What he liked most about this project was seeing “the emotional connection fire fighters have with their machinery. Seeing that amazed me.”
emotional connections
This kind of connection is what Playwell Bricks strives to create for all of our clients, just like the firefighter giving this gift in hopes their retiring friend looks at this custom set and find countless memories of time spent with both the engine and their fire fighting crew.
In this case, Petrus can be fairly confident that he succeeded in this goal. The client let Playwell Bricks know that they were “absolutely amazed at the process and how Playwell Bricks was able to put together the exact feel of Ladder 23 based on a few images.”
