When Bloom Pediatrics needed a special gift to celebrate their relationship with PCC (Physician’s Computer Company), they scheduled a discovery call with Playwell Bricks. In that call, they wanted to see if it was possible to replicate the historical mill where PCC’s offices were located as a custom brick set. They know that this building, as well as buildable bricks, held significant meaning for PCC.

PCC specifically features pediatric electronic health records (EHR) solutions with a focus on private practices. When Bloom Pediatrics wanted to honor PCC for all they’d done, they knew that the building where PCC was housed was the way to go. This building, Champlain Mill, was originally a woolen mill that was built in 1910 overlooking Winooski Falls. To take advantage of natural light, Champlain Mill was built with rows of tall windows. The original mill closed in 1954, and after a brief fall into disrepair, was reimagined as a loft-style office space where businesses like PCC have made their home.

A unique, location filled with character, history and overlooking Winooski Falls, it’s no wonder why PCC is proud of their location and why Bloom Pediatrics wanted to honor it.

Playwell Bricks’ Jared Oswald designed this custom Champlain Mill gift. “Most people see a rectangular building and think it will be easy to replicate,” he tells me. “But there were a lot of challenges to fit all of the details needed into the model. For example, the model has the exact same number of windows on each side as the building, which was very tough to pull off.

“The tower directly above the atrium in the building took a good amount of thinking through before a solution came. The solution - a floating puzzle-piece-style submodel that is not attached to the model at all, just pinned in against the adjacent wall. It fits perfectly, and it's my favorite part of the model,” he says with a grin.

This special custom Playwell Bricks set made an appearance at PCC’s UC2025 user’s conference, where bricks, the perfect metaphor for the building blocks of success in pediatrics, were right on theme.
