Each year, Foodservice distribution company Ben E. Keith Co. selects their best to send to the International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA) national championship.
This competition tests the skills of tractor-trailer drivers and warehouse operators. In order to be eligible, all operators competing must have a certain level of experience and maintain a safety record.
This year, Ben E. Keith wanted a special gift to celebrate the team members who would represent them at the event.
A Tractor-Trailer
Playwell’s contact at Ben E. Keith knew they wanted a tractor-trailer set to give to their competitors, but they wanted this custom set to include particular elements. In addition to their logos, they also wanted a decal on this custom set that represented Folds of Honor, a veteran’s charity important to their brand.
The Playwell graphics design team worked on these decals while Playwell Bricks designer Thiago Brisolla brought the tractor-trailer to life.
“Designing the truck was a lot of fun,” recalls Thiago. “My favorite feature was using the rocking portion of a hinge to connect to the rounds to make the wheels and tires. It’s such a simple detail that makes a world of difference when it comes to small vehicles. You have to make details fit where you can.”
Important Extras
After seeing this set with and without a plinth cleverly designed to mimic a roadway, the team at Ben E. Keith chose the plinth option, and this set shifted gears into the manufacturing and production steps.
