AustinPX came to Playwell Bricks to commission not one, but two, custom Playwell Bricks sets of their proprietary Amorphous Dispersion Technology, or KinetiSol™ Technology. The brand had planned a campaign they called Build Your Solution, and building with bricks fit perfectly with their theme.

The client knew exactly what they wanted when they came to their Discovery Call. They explained to the Playwell team that they planned to have a free-build brick table at an important campaign event. At this table, they wanted a large set of the AustinPX KinetiSol™ Technology that event goers could follow instructions and build as a group.

In addition, they wanted to commission a smaller set of the same tech that they could give out to clients who booked a meeting. On these smaller sets, the client explained that they would like to have a vertical business card holder that could easily attach and detach from the unit.

Playwell Bricks designer Eric Dubois Yang handled both of these designs. “For the smaller set, we scaled the technology with the disc section in mind, to be a 2x2 round plate,” he explained. “Then we proportioned the rest of the set according to that plate. We tried to preserve the build’s proportions rather than distorting them, as can sometimes happen with bricks. The main priority was the Amorphous Dispersion Technology itself.”

He included a detachable business card holder to the rear of this small set, simply made with few sloping wedges and a ledge (close-up shown in photo above).

“The biggest challenge of the larger set was making the budget,” Eric goes on. “The piece I wanted wasn’t available, but we found a solution by making this set hollow, while still ensuring that it was structurally sound enough that anyone, of any skill level, could build it.

“Scale-wise, the disc section in the larger set is 4x4, which means it’s eight times the volume of the smaller set. That’s quite a big jump when you’re working with a 3D model!”

After the finishing touches of decals for the logos and digital screen, as well as marketing content embedded in the build instructions, these two custom KinetiSol™ Technology sets were ready to join AustinPX’s Build Your Solution campaign.

In addition to a large set for the brick table at the campaign event, AustinPX also has smaller, take-home versions as an incentive to book a meeting with the brand. Each of these smaller sets came with an easily detachable business card holder, making it a practical and inventive set.
