The Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is no stranger to models. In fact, the vision for the Arthur M. Blank hospital was originally created via something they called a cardboard city; a warehouse-sized cardboard model they used to assist in planning and layout. This cardboard model allowed the team to pinpoint any pain points to hospital staff and correct them before investing in the actual construction.

After years of planning, the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta was finally ready to open the doors of the now completed and operational Arthur M. Blank children’s hospital. This new hospital features state-of-the-art healthcare facilities as well as a very cool fleet of ninety automaton robots to haul linens and trash. A single challenge remained: a gift to commemorate the opening of the hospital.

Another model, much smaller than the cardboard warehouse this time, was the best choice for the hospital’s commemorative gift. A model created out of bricks made for a beautiful nod to the hospital’s patients, while the sleek, modern styling of Playwell Bricks reflected the state-of-the-art nature of the facilities.

Playwell Bricks designers Garrett Gourley created the custom set of the Arthur M. Blank Hospital in miniscale. “I pride myself in trying to capture every detail to showcase the true details of the scale of building in small form,” says Garrett. “This particular model has an angled wing of the building” which proved challenging. Happily, “a challenge is something I love to overcome and I couldn’t be prouder of the end result!” he adds.
