Apprentis Ventures is an early stages investment company that uses an apprenticeship model to help founders learn what it takes to succeed and thrive. They came to Playwell Bricks seeking a custom Playwell Bricks set of their logo as a promotional giveaway. When they began to explain why and how they imagined their final set, it turns out that this custom set is actually loaded with meaningful symbolism that takes it to the next level. SYMBOLISM
Apprentis Ventures specifically requested that their custom set maintained a jagged, brick-like nature, to the point of declining concepts they deemed not brick-like enough. It was important to them that the emphasis of their set remain on the building aspect, just like the way Apprentis helps their start-ups and founders build their skills and businesses.
They wanted this set to appear under construction, even going as far as including a few hinges so that the two sections could lean both away and against each other. Of this aspect, Apprentis wrote “like our logo, two bricks leaning on each other to form an ‘A’, we believe that our strength lies in how we support each other.”
DESIGNING THE SET
Playwell Bricks team member Petrus Gartler designed this custom set. “It was fun to work on this since they really wanted that brick-built style. Clients often want to have a model as close as possible to their logo or product so we have to ‘hide’ the actual bricks. In this case it was the other way around,” explains Petrus.
Once he caught on to the client’s idea, Petrus ran with it. “It's just a small model with basic techniques - just like the client requested. But I think my idea of having the model being able to be ‘assembled’ by the included minifigures was a nice feature the client didn't expect.”
