Akela Construction Limited had a unique vision for corporate Christmas gifts: a custom playable bricks set of the wolf from the Akela logo, done in a 3D style similar to the Star Wars™ Helmet Collection. Playwell Bricks designer Pedro Lara took on the challenge of bringing this howling wolf model to life.

Lara is happy to talk about his design process. “I started doing the jaw and mouth/nose so that I had the looks and scale I wanted, then prepared a rectangular frame similar to the official Helmet Collection,” he says.

“Here’s the unusual part,” Lara adds with some eagerness. “The head and fur were entirely sculpted with regular bricks, slopes, and quarter tiles. There’s no advanced technique there, but I had to place bricks in a way that I achieved the looks I wanted. That was literally sculpting work and more challenging than I expected. In the end, it was a very fun design, and I loved the result.”

Akela was also delighted with their 3-D wolf model. After a little back-and-forth with Lara to nail the colors in the logo, they signed off on the design and Playwell Bricks shifted into production to get these sets to Calgary in time for Christmas.
