Agilent Technologies works in the life sciences sector, design and manufacturing laboratory equipment and software used in research all over the world. When it came time to commission a gift for their VIP clients, the team at Agilent came to Playwell Bricks.
Liquid Chromatography
During their discovery call, Playwell’s contact at Agilent explained that they were looking to see their own instruments built out of bricks to offer their clients. They shared images of Agilent’s 1290 InfinityLab III LC System With Flex Bench, used in liquid chromatography, with the team, explaining that this was the specific instrument they wanted to see as a custom Playwell Bricks set.
Playwell designer Garrett Gourley, who’s no stranger to recreating objects in miniature, began creating the first concept without delay. As some details are necessary to leave behind in miniature, he went back and forth with the client to understand just what details could be left out, and which were far too important to miss. Once the team at Agilent was happy with their model, it was the Playwell graphic design team’s time to shine.
The Graphic Design
Packaging is an important part of every Playwell Bricks project, and for this set, Playwell designer Kostik Poloskin worked closely with Agilent Technologies’ packaging graphics system to ensure that this set was on-brand and to Agilent’s specifications.
Likewise, Agilent sent the Playwell team files to be included in the set’s Build Instructions, including an opening welcome and the full specs of the 1290 InfinityLab III LC System With Flex Bench. They also included short notes throughout that instructions that help to explain and teach the builder how the instrument works and all its special features. This is a clever way to include marketing notes at a point when the recipient is giving the set their full attention.
It also gave Agilent a nice way to tie the building process in with the instrument itself, stating that “part of the Agilent InfinityLab ecosystem of instruments, columns, and supplies, the 1290 Infinity III LC is a great example of how all the components work together—like bricks in a model—to build a powerful and reliable lab workflow, helping scientists solve complex challenges and reduce operational costs.
Conclusion
The team at Playwell Bricks was thrilled to see these custom Agilent sets make an appearance on LinkedIn through the December holidays, as Agilent wished their followers happy holidays and thanked them for “making great science together.”
