During their discovery call, the client explained that their team had actually been on the receiving end of custom Playwell Bricks sets in the past. “We all keep them on our desks,” they explained, so this time, they wanted the treasured item to be one of their louvers. “People will keep it on their desk and think of us,” just like the Air Distribution Technologies, Inc. team did with those other sets.

Their plan didn’t stop there, though. They explained that one of the recipient groups they had in mind were engineers, so the Ruskin team wanted to challenge them to build the louver without the instructions. “Because they’re engineers, a lot of them will be able to, and then maybe we can give them a prize afterward if they succeed.”

Playwell Bricks would still create the Build Instructions just the same, so the Ruskin team could also give them out as swag.  

To get the ball rolling, the client sent over photographs of their louver. Playwell Bricks team member Eric Dubois Yang created the first concept design from these pictures. The client was happy to approve Eric’s design, but mentioned that the louvers were upside down. “It’s okay. We can just flip it over,” they said.

The Playwell Bricks team realized that this would reveal the bottom of the bricks at the top, rather than the smooth top Eric intended in the design. This didn’t meet Playwell Bricks’ high standards, and throw off the engineers trying to build it without instructions, so Eric returned to the design. 

This time, the magic happened. “I’m very proud of this design,” Eric told the team, perhaps all the more so for the care he put into it.
