Sometimes a client comes to their discovery call with a solid idea of what they want and when that idea also poses an unusual design challenge, the Playwell Bricks team of designers sit up and pay attention. They love a fresh creative challenge like Acxion Foodservice’s request for a “an avocado that split into two with a seed in the middle, and that seed should pop out like a real avocado seed.”

“Avocados from Mexico is the number one supplier of avocados to the U.S.,” Playwell Bricks CEO Jason Pyett explains. “They are used in virtually all restaurant chains the U.S. Acxion Foodservice, a food marketing company, was hosting an event for the CEOs of various restaurant and they commissioned this custom avocado set to include in their gift package.”

Kostik Poloskin stepped in to help when the original designer was struggling with the design, resulting in this custom avocado becoming his first design for Playwell Bricks. “I love to make some regular structures with bricks, so when I saw the designer struggling, I started imagining this avocado and then I got to building it. This was my first design for Playwell Bricks and it’s amazing!” he tells me with some excitement.

“The set has two parts and there was such a small space to keep those small parts together. It was tricky,” he tells me.

He also learned a lot about production with this design. “I learned to make these sets with strong restrictions like size, price, and parts quantity.” Details like these are ones that non-production design can overlook.

After Playwell Bricks completes a design, a prototype is shipped to the client for final approvals. Once Acxion Foodservice received this custom avocado prototype, they had one more request: adding the Avocados from Mexico logo to one side of the fruit as well as a little stand for the avocado.

Kostik quickly added a printed brick with the logo to the avocado set, and due to the clickable nature of bricks, the stand was an easy addition. Now this custom avocado set was complete and ready for production of 250 deliciously charming Playwell Bricks sets.
