Scout Security is a private security business operating in Denver and Colorado Springs (State of Colorado, U.S.A.) that offers fire watch and custom security tailored to its clients’ needs. The brand also has a steady presence at local trade shows, which prompted Scout Security to contact Playwell Bricks to commission a custom Scout Security trade show giveaway.

At their Discovery Call, the client explained to Playwell Bricks that one of the goals they measure for is their clients saying, “Oh, I’ve never seen that from a security guard company before. We try to stand out in everything we do,” they went n to explain, and this set should be no different.

More directly, the client offered some ideas of what their custom set should be. It was soon decided that their custom design would be based on the Toyota Rav 4’s in their fleet, complete with decals to match the real thing. The stripe on the side of the vehicle was pointed out as an important detail and passed along to the design team.

Playwell Bricks team member Paul Lavallee designed this custom set for Scout Security. At the time, he wasn’t an active designer as he’d moved into the role of Instructions Administrator, but “I volunteered to design the set,” because he loved the scale of the vehicle. “Getting to design a vehicle with stickers and complex shapes was fun and right in my wheelhouse.”

The most challenging aspect of this vehicle design ended up being that important stripe the client had pointed out. Designing the vehicle with that blue stripe out of bricks threw off the scale. Too big and the car didn’t look right; too small and the brand messaging wouldn’t fit. Ultimately, the graphics team was brought in, who suggested they include the colour as part of the decal containing the brand messaging and logo.

From there, the graphic teams continued on, adhering the Scout Security phone number, branding, and even a license plate to the design with decals. After adding Scout Security’s marketing content and testimonials to the Build Instructions, this set was ready for its trade show debut.
