2024 marked the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce’s 130th anniversary in the City of Red Deer, Alberta (Canada). As part of their anniversary celebrations, the business advocacy association felt that it was time to refresh, rebrand, and relaunch with a brand new logo.

Named for the Red Deer river that the city was built near, the Chamber of Commerce has used some version of a red deer as their logo since their inception. From a Bambi-style logo in their early years to a svelte, leaping stag more recently. This time, the brand made a major shift from red to orange and used the R and the C of their name to create a modern, stylized stag, representing the company’s ideals of innovation and collaboration, while reflecting the brand’s “charge ahead” essence.

As part of their rebrand, the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce commissioned Playwell Bricks to create 250 sets of their new logo, done up as a brick mosaic. Playwell Bricks CEO Jason Pyett created the initial design and then Playwell designer Yvonne Strijbos took over to polish and resize to the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce’s specifications. “We had a nice little back and forth going on this project,” Jason says.

“It was the perfect project from our end. Everything went beautiful. It was amazing,” he goes on to explain. When the bricks arrived at his house for sorting, the project became a family affair as his youngest helped him. “They spent two and a half hours opening up all the bags and putting the instruction card into the bag,” he says proudly. “That was a big help.”

After that, the custom logo sets were shipped from Nova Scotia to Alberta and into the hands of the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce. The team hopes their gift recipients are enjoying their new custom Playwell Bricks sets and all the other rebrand goodies and celebrations!
