Malvern Panalytical is a scientific instrument manufacturer that provides and develops software for materials characterization (how scientists and engineers measure, test, and understand the properties of substances). A representative from Malvern Panalytical reached out to Playwell Bricks because they were interested in creating a custom set of a product from their recently acquired Micromeritics brand. 

“Micromeritics builds the systems that unlock the secrets of particles, powders, and porous materials across countless industries,” the client explained. “The Micromeritics TriStar is a fully automated surface area and porosity analyzer.”

The TriStar, the client decided, would be the subject of this custom set. It should be fully branded to Micromeritics, and the client’s team was already putting together marketing content to be included in the Build Instructions. Intended as trade show giveaways, they wanted to be sure their recipients understood the potential of the TriStar.

Playwell Bricks designer Eric Dubois Yang studied the photographs and schematics the client sent before preparing the first concept of this set. “The biggest challenge was figuring out how to represent the cylinder best at this size,” he recalls. After discussing the possibilities with other team members, someone suggested using the candle brick. Eric tried that out, but he wasn’t pleased with the result. 

After more discussion with the graphic design team, “I used a clear brick for the cylinder, and we had the three lines the client needed printed on that cylinder.” This, too, was tricky at such a small size, but the client ultimately signed off on this design. Once the Micromeritics TriStar was affixed, this set was ready for production and shipping.

With the custom set, Malvern Panalytical has a custom-designed set branded to their newly acquired company, Micromeritics. This custom TriStar set will be a sought-after giveaway at the client’s trade shows, and the marketing content embedded in the Build Instructions will make sure Micromeritics and Malvern Panalytical's potential is top of mind while recipients are building this set.
