How this Custom Set Represents the Most Powerful KUKA Robot
Introduction
KUKA is one of the world’s leading automation companies, delivering intelligent robotics, autonomous mobile robots, software, and fully connected production solutions for manufacturers across a wide range of industries. When the team at KUKA wanted to commission a custom client appreciation gift, they reached out the Playwell Bricks to see what was possible.
The Challenge
The client wanted a custom Playwell Bricks set created based on their KR TITAN ultra, “the most powerful KUKA robot.” The client went on to point out the aspects that were the most important for this set to capture: the orange colour of the robot, its functionality, and its strength.
“The KR TITAN ultra represents the strength and scale of KUKA innovation in heavy-duty robotics.” The client explained that they wanted this custom set to “celebrate the engineering, power, and innovation behind one of KUKA’s most capable robotic platforms.”
The Solution
“This model presented a few challenges right away,” the designer explained. “The orange that best matched this client’s product is notoriously difficult to procure in quantity, so I designed the model to only use the colour on exterior parts.” Before sharing the concept with the client, the team would carefully check that there would be enough parts in the orange colour first.
The designer built functionality into this set via pins and rods, which allowed sections of the arm to bend and move. Next, the designer created a vehicle chassis for the brick arm to lift. This would showcase the KR TITAN ultra’s strength and add to the custom set’s playability.
The Result
With this custom KR TITAN ultra set, KUKA has a custom client appreciation gift in its signature orange colour that showcases the robot’s functionality and its strength. Moreover, it’s a gift that celebrates the engineering, power, and innovation behind KUKA’s robotic platforms.
